Scholars I.S.C.’s lead at the top table was reduced to two points after they held on for a draw against Elite S.C. at the Cayman Center for Excellence on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

The crowd was out in numbers to witness the match between the league favorites, the two teams that had competed in the charity Shield Cup to kickstart the season.

Unlike that night at the Truman Bodden Stadium, there were no goals for the fans to enjoy as the game ended 0-0, but like that night, referee Benjamin Whitty was again forced to banish a Scholars’ player with a red card.

Elite dictated the early processing but failed to make the opportunities that presented themselves count. Andres Ruiz was especially wasted as he failed to hit the target when he received the ball in the penalty area with time and space, but he placed the ball wide of the upright in the 20th minute.

Jordan Bonilla of Scholars I.C. was given a straight red in the 38th minute for a dangerous tackle on Linwood at the half line. Elite continued to create opportunities but failed to beat Ricardo Gayle in goal for Scholars allowing them to maintain their unbeaten streak in the league.

Future Sports Club moved up to second place in the table after recording a comfortable 3-1 victory over Roma United.

Colby Seymour opened the scoring in the 14th minute of play. Tyler Beckford placed his name on the scoresheet in the 44th minute after Roma failed to handle a corner kick. This goal gave Future a 2-nil lead at the break.

Jelani Hamilton made the game and saved Future with a wonderful strike in the 68th minute to make it 3-0 Nicholy Finlayson converted a penalty for Roma in added time for his seventh goal of the season to maintain his lead at the top of the goal scoring chart in the CPL.

In other games from the weekend, Sunset FC defeated East End FC 1-0 thanks to a 49th-minute strike from Anthony Nelson, and Academy turned back Bodden Town FC 2-1. Theron Wood was the lone scorer for Bodden Town, while Leymar Mclean and Nuno Mourinho were on target for Academy Sports Club.
