Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association (CIASA) confirmed that six swimmers are travelling to Guadeloupe next week as part of the Cayman Islands team at the first Caribbean Games – the realisation of a long dreamed of multisport Games in the Caribbean. The games will include seven disciplines, have twenty-nine countries represented and around 800 athletes and 200 officials taking part.
The swimmers, James Allison, Corey Frederick-Westerborg, Harper Barrowman, Alison Jackson, Jasmine Lambert-Wragg and Kyra Rabess all have experience as Junior National Team swimmers and they are looking forward to being a part of this first, historic team. Allison, Frederick-Westerborg, Barrowman, Jackson and Rabess will be racing in the pool while Lambert-Wragg is competing in open water. Pool swimming takes place from 30 June – 3 July at the Inter-municipal Pool in Abymes and the open water takes place at the Anise Tabarin beach in Gosier.
“We are delighted that Cayman swimming is a part of team Cayman Islands at this historic first Caribbean Games,” said Steve Broadbelt, CIASA President. “The swimming takes place in a 50m pool which means that, in the future when Cayman’s 50m pool is completed we will be able to host the Caribbean Games here in Cayman. We look forward to partnering with the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee (CIOC) for this and other events in the competition schedule – with the 2022 Commonwealth Games being next on the calendar.”
