The Cayman Islands national men’s rugby team is scheduled to face Mexico on December 11th in Mexico City.
Cayman Rugby made the announcement on Monday (November 29) stating that the test match will assist the development of Cayman’s youth players at an international level.
A total of 14 players have been confirmed for team Cayman, including Caymanians Joe Brown and Tommy Kehoe.
Conal Keane, who has been selected as the team captain stated in a press release issued by Cayman Rugby, “I’m very excited and proud to be asked to lead this group of men representing the Cayman Islands in Mexico.”
“It’s been nearly two and half years since a Cayman National Rugby team took to the field, and it’s time to start a new chapter.”
Before COVID-19 came into play, Cayman’s last encounter against Mexico came at the 2019 Rugby Americas challenge competition in Columbia where they lost.
Cayman Rugby thank their supporters, coaching staff and the players for making the trip possible.
Adding, “[we are] grateful to Mexico RFU for their commitment to ensuring this game can happen,” the release stated. “We hope to grow this relationship to further opportunities.”
