Footballer passes away following fatal collision

Cayman’s former national football player Jessus Ebanks was pronounced dead Friday 24 Sep., night following a motor vehicle collision on Reverend Blackman Road in West Bay.

According to the RCIPS, just before 6 pm on Friday, police and other emergency services were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a minivan and a motorcycle.

Ebanks, 33, who was on the motorcycle was immediately transported to the hospital by ambulance, but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by the attending doctor. No other injuries were reported as a result of this collision.

Ebanks played for the Cayman Islands during the 2015-17 World Cup qualifiers and was also apart of several local football clubs, including Elite SC and Scholars International.

“A hard one for the entire football community,” Scholars ISC wrote on their social media page. “We will always cherish the memories we shared with you…Rest in peace Jessus.”
