Walkers has become the new title sponsor of the Cayman Islands Marathon after signing a three-year partnership deal.
The event, set for 5 Dec., will now be called the Walkers Cayman Islands Marathon, following on from the 10-year sponsorship of Intertrust.
“We are delighted to be the new headline sponsor of this fantastic sports event, which draws a huge amount of international interest and highlights all that the Cayman Islands has to offer,” Tim Buckley, Walkers’ Cayman managing partner, said in a press release.
The event was launched in 2003, organised by Kelly Holding Ltd (KHL). Since then, the event has challenged thousands of people both locally and internationally to participate for various reasons, such as fitness goals or more personal motivations.
“We are thrilled about this new partnership with Walkers,” said race director Rhonda Kelly of KHL. “We have worked hard over the years to make this race a first-class, international running event by listening to our participants, getting feedback from our sponsors and learning from previous years and other races.”
The event features the full marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon and a four-person relay with categories including all female, all male, corporate and mixed. It also offers a “Milo Kids Fun Run” and recently added a virtual option for runners participating in the full and half marathons.
“For an organisation of Walkers’ status to see the value of the Cayman Islands Marathon, recognise the quality and reputation of the event, and want to get involved is both validating and encouraging for our team. We are grateful for the investment and the confidence which they have placed in us,” Kelly said.
Registration for the 2021 Walkers Cayman Islands Marathon is now open online at CaymanIslandsMarathon.com.
