After a short delay, the results are in for the Cayman leg of the Caribbean Equestrian
Association’s (CEA) Dressage Challenge which was held recently at the Equestrian Center
located along the Linford Pierson Highway. Marley Trench and Jessica McTaggart were named High Point Junior and Adult Champions with scores of 72.41% and 68.61% respectively.
The Caribbean Dressage Challenge enables riders from CEA member countries to compete
against each other without having to travel with their horse. Normally, the judge travels from island to island, scoring each competitor’s ride live at an officially organized horse show in each country. Since the judge could not travel this year due to the pandemic, each competitor’s ride was recorded under otherwise-normal competition conditions, and the recordings were sent to the judge, Heather Stalker (USEF – R) of the United States.
The Cayman Islands was the first of the seven member countries of the CEA to hold its leg of the 2021 Caribbean Dressage Challenge. As a result, the ranking of Cayman’s riders among their peers in the Caribbean won’t be known until the rest of the countries hold their competitions.
In addition to individual rankings, there is a junior and adult team ranking for each country.
Teams consist of the three riders generating the highest weighted scores. For 2021, Cayman’s junior team consists of Marley Trench, Madison Ameline and Ava Law and the adult team is comprised of Jessica McTaggart, Milley Serpell and Anje van Genderen.
The Cayman leg of the CEA Dressage Challenge is also scored as a competition among local equestrians, and was held in conjunction with the Cayman Islands Equestrian Federation’s (CIEF) 4 th and final National Dressage Show of the season.
With the completion of the season, the CIEF will be announcing shortly Cayman’s champions in the various dressage categories.
