Cayman’s national sailor, Allena Rankine recently shared her COVID-19 experience with the Cayman Islands Olympic Commitee as part of their “Athlete Impact” series.
Rankine told CIOC she is happy to be in Cayman, compared to England where she studies at the University of Southampton.
“Since returning home I haven’t been impacted by the pandemic,” said Rankine. “However, when I was in the UK it was quite depressing and lonely.”
Rankine, who attended the Youth Sailing World championships in 2017 said COVID-19 has in fact disrupted her training but she is finding alternatives to stay fit.
“Unfortunately, the pandemic has impacted my ability to train overseas,” said Rankine. “Since I’ve been at home I have been trying to get back into the gym 2-3 times weekly.”
Rankine is planning a return to her school before the summer.
