Leading up to the round 6 match between rivals Bodden Town FC and Scholars ISC, many fans expected a competitive showdown. However, that wasn’t the case Sunday (1 November) night at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
Scholars registered a shocking six goals to nil over Bodden Town; who were down to ten men by the 55th minute after a red card was issued to Rico Brown.
“We always have respect for Bodden Town, they are the defending champions,” said Scholars’ head coach Collin Rowe. “I don’t know what the rotation is down there but they’re certainly not up to par like they used to be.”
Bodden Town last four games have resulted in either a loss or a draw and one must think, if they are to have any chance at defending their title, winning is a must moving forward.
After a 23 minute stalemate, a foul in the box resulted to top scorer Jonah Ebanks converting a penalty to bring the score 1-0.
Bodden Town thought they brought the game level after Brown found the back of the net, but the scoreline remained the same as referee Jonathon Hughes called offside.
In the second half, Scholars’ Edroy Williams brought the game 2-0 after a visionary assist by Ebanks. Williams would go on to score again in the 71st min, followed by super-sub Rodrick Pearson in the 80th and then Ayon Allen in the 88th.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worst for Bodden Town’s goalkeeper and captain Ramon Sealy, Ebanks made it 6-0 in added time to close the game. The loss marked Bodden Town men’s team biggest defeat in almost 4 seasons competing in the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) Premier League.
“My players are executing the system and they’re playing very well and that’s where this result is came from,” said Rowe.
