The Cayman Islands Little League 2020 season finally came to a halt Saturday (5 September) night after nearly 2 weeks of play-offs throughout various divisions.
Scotiabank took the Girls Softball crown while Yello won the Pony Division title. Logic won the Double A division and the Triple A division went to Vigoro.
In the Co-Ed League, McAlpine claimed the A division title, Walkers won the B division and Kings Sports were the champs in the C division.
“It’s been a great experience for me,” said Little League Programme Director Derek Bolingbroke.
Like many other sporting leagues in Cayman, the YMCA Little League circuit was put on pause for several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Bolingbroke said, as soon as government gave the green light for sports to start back, preparations started immediately.
“The league got going fairly quickly which was great,” said Bolingbroke. “We jammed in a lot of games for these kids both in the youth league and the adult league and it’s been two weeks of playoffs.
After the league resumption, Bolingbroke said he notice a shifted in the number of players. “We certainly saw a slight decrease but some of that is due to the fact that some people left the island,” said Bolingbroke. “I think very little didn’t return because of the actual state of Covid.
The Cayman Islands Little League is expected to returned in January following major renovations to the Field of Dreams.
