The fourth annual Cayman Islands Classic basketball tournament has been relocated due to the ongoing COVID-19 circumstances. Organisers recently revealed in a press release; the event will proceed at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville this November.
The 2020 tournament was originally schedule to host it’s eight teams at the John Gray High School Gymnasium. However, government restrictions turned those plans down, as they have done with many other events that gather large crowds such as Cayman carnival, which brings hundreds of visitors to the islands each year.

In addition, the government has implementing a phased re-opening of Cayman borders in November that involves a five-day self-quarantine for each visitor.
“Although these conditions do not make it possible for this year’s tournament to be held in Cayman, we completely understand and respect the Government’s decision and approach,” said Joe Wright of Caymax Sports.
“The Cayman Islands Government has done a phenomenal job in suppressing and controlling the COVID-19 disease and we commend them for that. We look forward to bringing the tournament back to the Cayman Islands in 2021.”
Tickets for the tournament, go on sale this summer. All the games will be streamed through FloSports. For more on the tournament visit caymanislandsclassic.com.
